Rotational Molded Resin

Ingenia has diversified our rotational molding grade slate, find a new product solution that works for your application.

Overview

The rotomolding process makes hollow parts by adding powder into a mold and heating the mold. The typical process is highlighted below.

When producing rotational molded parts, manufactures use air temperature monitoring technology to ensure the proper temperature inside the mold is reached. Each rotationally molded resin must reach a specified peak internal air temperature (PIAT) to ensure full cross-linking reaction takes place. The proper PIAT will result in a rotomolded product with the best and most consistent properties.

Crosslinking polyethylene is a heat initiated chemical process where the rotomolding resin forms crosslinks between polymer chains. This process converts a thermoplastic to a thermoset material to enhance the properties of the final product.

Product Features

Superlink® has superior processability and lower scrap rates than other cross-linkable rotomolding resins. Compared to linear resins, Superlink has:

  • Excellent moldability
  • Superior ARM low temperature impact over 170 ft.lbs. for ½” thick parts
  • No brittle failures
  • Outstanding environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) over 1000 hours
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Higher heat deflection temperature

Rototuf®

Ingenia’s advanced linear rotomolding resin, Rototuf®, offers the advantages of recyclability, weldability and balanced mechanical performance. Rototuf® is a UV stabilized solution for outdoor applications.

Rototuf® RT534

Rototuf® has advantages over traditional linear resins including:

  • High stiffness
  • Excellent low temperature impact properties
  • Good ESCR performance
  • Rototuf® PCR is derived from renewable resources and offers reduced environmental impacts

Rotolite®

Rotolite® is a novel one shot two-layer foaming system for rotational molding. Once foamed, Rotolite® makes a closed cell structure that offers thermal insulative, sound/resonance dampening and buoyant properties. Adding foam to a part can improve structural strength and stiffness, offering the opportunity to reduce part weight. Rotolite® F-10 foam is compatible with several types of polyethylene resins as a skin layer. Depending on part design, the foam can fill or partially fill the cavity. Rotolite® has found use in pallets, panels, septic lids, buoyant objects and speaker housings. Rotolite® advantages include:

  • A recyclable alternative to polyurethane foams
  • Time saving solution to produce a part and foam concurrently
